Equality Ohio Weekly Alert Update Dec 2

Every couple of weeks I send out an update on what’s happening in LGBTQ Ohio. The Ohio legislature is in an active "lame duck" session right now, and we have an action for you to help. Let’s get to it! ✖✎ Pastor Protection Act voted out of committee. The Pastor Protection Act––a bill that supporters claim protects clergy but actually targets LGBTQ people for discrimination––was voted out of committee. This bill is nothing more than backlash against LGBTQ people. If you have already made a call to Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, thank you. If not, check out our call to action here. ★ Post-election FAQ. Equality Ohio has received a flood of calls, emails and social media messages about the status of LGBTQ rights after the election. We’ve collected the most common ones and provided answers here. ★ Equitas Health and TransOhio holding free name-change clinics across the state. At these clinics, participants will be able to speak with attorneys and get advice on how the name-change process works in Ohio. They are free and held in the evenings for easy access. Check out the schedule here. ✎ Ohio housing development offering refuge for low-income aging LGBTQ people. “The 55-unit apartment complex on the Cleveland-Lakewood border is geared toward members of the aging LGBT community which often deals with poverty issues, mainly among Lesbians,” NewsNet5 reports. Read the full article here. It's a busy time for us at Equality Ohio. Thanks for all your advocacy and help during this legislative session. Alana Jochum, Executive Director
